Two special trains started to tackle rush

LUDHIANA: To accommodate rush on the occasion of Chhath Puja, the railway authorities have started two special trains on Monday and Tuesday. As
during this period migrant labourers in huge number leave for their hometowns to celebrate the festival with their family members, long waiting lists are observed in the trains.
After monitoring the status of waiting list, the authorities came up with the decision to start two special trains to ease the commotion.
The special train between Ludhiana and Saharasa would be leaving the city station at 9.45 am on Monday and Tuesday. There are 22 coaches in the train and it would reach Saharasa via Ambala, Saharanpur, Sitapur Cantt, Gorakhpur, Chhapra, Sonepur, Hizipur, Muzaffarpur and Samastipur. Apart from this, the authorities are also connecting additional coaches to the existing trains.
Earlier, the railway authorities had directed all the railway officials to submit a daily report on the condition of the waiting lists in trains so that they could arrange for special trains or extra coaches in existing trains. Chhath Puja is one of the biggest festivals in the eastern states, so large numbers of commuters travel to that part of the country during this period.
The rush at the railway station can be gauged from the fact that most commuters prefer to reach the station one day prior to the date of their journey so that they do not miss their trains. “There is hardly any space in the trains for commuters. The authorities should arrange for more special trains,” said Raju, one of the commuters. He said though he would be boarding the train on Tuesday, he reached the station on Monday so that he does miss his train.
While giving the information, GB Singh, divisional traffic manager said that it is for the convenience of passengers travelling in the general compartment that they have started two special trains between Ludhiana and Saharasa. He informed that one train would depart on Monday while another would leave on Tuesday. “In both the trains only general coaches have been provided and general fare would be charged from them,” he added.
